A Message From the Camp Director

Jonathan Pivnick has been Camp Director from 1986 - 1988, and since 2008.

Jonathan PivnickDear Parents,

Welcome to Camp B'nai Brith of Ottawa. I'm both proud and fortunate to say that this camp has been a part of my life since I attended as a camper in 1969. While there have been many changes at CBB of Ottawa over the past 40 years, all geared to improving this wonderful place, some things have thankfully stayed the same. Our mission and culture have never wavered. We take pride in making CBB of Ottawa your children's "home away from home" by providing a safe, inclusive and loving environment that helps develop important social skills, builds confidence, and instills a sense of pride and ongoing commitment to our Jewish culture and community. Oh, and let's not forget the lifelong friendships that are built here at CBB of Ottawa.

While our camper numbers have increased consistently over the past few summers, we have always maintained that "small numbers camp" feeling that keeps CBB of Ottawa a "family" in every sense of the word. There is something very special about our camp where everyone knows everyone, whether you're seven or seventeen.

While we know that it's the friendships that bring your children through our front gate summer after summer, it doesn't stop us from continually looking for ways to improve our facilities and programming. As I mentioned above, we have seen a number of changes over the years. Camp B'nai Brith boasts an Olympic size swimming pool, an outdoor, regulation size ball-hockey arena, showers and toilet facilities in all of our camper cabins, an indoor gymnasium, a mini-putt course, two soccer fields, lighted tennis courts and much more.  And that's just half of the fun. Our large sandy beach on the shores of the Ottawa River leads to a fully equipped waterfront that encompasses a full range of water activities, including water-skiing, windsurfing, sailing, canoeing and kayaking.

I believe that the key to a truly successful camp season rests with the quality of our staff.  You can have the best and most modern facilities going but if you don't have a mature and dedicated group of individuals caring for and teaching your children, all you've got is a camp with nice "stuff". Well, at CBB of Ottawa, we've got both!  I consider the selection of our counselors, supervisors and specialists to be one of, if not my biggest responsibility as camp Director. With staff and specialists coming from as far away as Australia, England and other parts of the world, we truly leave no stone unturned when it comes to making sure your children have the best summer of their lives, year after year after year.

I want to thank you so very much for trusting me, my wife Heidi and the entire CBB of Ottawa Board and Staff with your children. Their happiness and well-being are our primary focus. We promise not to let you and your most prized possessions down.

Sincerely,

Jonathan "Piv" Pivnick
